Unable to access Desktop after log in screen

Hello!

I'm attempting to install Ubuntu on my desktop and the install goes fine and I can get to log in screen. I type in the password and hit enter and then I get this:

I've tried to find the answer to this on the web, but to no avail. Maybe I'm not searching for the right tags/terms.

Can anyone here help me resolve this issue?

I suggest that you try Ctrl + Alt + F1 and try to login in terminal mode. Then I assume you can take it from there. If you installed with Internet connected Ubuntu may have installed a graphic driver that may not work. If so, you may need to reset graphics to to X11 default, but there may be something completely different that is wrong...
