pixelated gradients/blending colors

yesterday I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on Windows XP using the Wubi installer, and I noticed that gradients and blending colors were pixelated. later that day I re-installed Ubuntu 12.04 via CD (removing Windows XP and the Wubi Ubuntu 12.04) but gradients and blending colors are still pixelated. Did I mess something up or miss something?
