I downloaded twice, but in both cases the md5 checksum failed.
I used winMd5Sum to check the md5 of the downloaded file. I used Firefox, DownThemall to download the iso.

Is there a correct way to download the file properly?

Find a different mirror.

The md5 should always match, if they don't then you have a corrupt copy. Obviously you know this if you're even aware of md5 sums. But it might be corrupt on the server you chose.

I downloaded the ubuntu copy from torrent, since torrent matches md5 properly. And it worked fine. The MD5 checksums matched. I guess the lesson here is to use utorrent when downloading huge apps.

I think the lesson is that md5 sums work. You had a corrupted copy for whatever reason, and the md5 check caught it.
