Installed Xubuntu on my Sony Vaio but there seems to be no bootloader?

I can't get into it even though I know it is installed. There is no boot option, it just goes straight to Windows 8. I tried to use boot-repair from the live disc but it tells me to disable secure boot and try again, after doing so it tells me that secure boot is disabled? Yeah because it told me to do so. Not sure what to do here.

Di you install Xubuntu in legacy or UEFI mode?

If you don't know what I am asking about read carefully through UEFI - Ubuntu Documentation (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI) for all the details, and hopefully a solution.

I'm sorry this EFI stuff really confuses me. I'm pretty sure EFI was enabled when I installed it along with secure boot, Windows 8 uses it I think.
