so i want to use the offical nvidia driver, but right now i'm using the xorg alternate. now when i install the driver my screen gets cropped and gets the 800x600 resolution.

now i'm going to do a fresh install, but i want to know, what do i need to do to install the driver properly.

my specs are a gt 740m with optimus technology, and i want to use the beta driver that uses opengl 4.4 but if that dosn't work i'm willing to use the more stable driver.

so can i get a step by step preocess on what i need to do. since i'm still a noob at the terminal i will need the commands as well.

Have you tried the Bumblebee (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee) project. Its design for Optimus.

I actually installed bumblebee before I installed the driver each time.

Ok. All I need to know is what packages I need prior to run the offical driver and anything to prevent the low res bug.
