It's nice to see that the distros topping distrowatch.com's list ship GNOME by default.

FreeBSD, gonna try that some day. Seems like all *BSD are KDE though so I wonder how it is supported.

Kind shuts up those KDE fanboys (not every KDE user!) who sometimes can't help reiterating that KDE is the most popular Linux desktop environment :p I have my doubts these days.

It appears the list made be old, judging from the version # affliated with Ubuntu.

I would think the list would be much more extensive then this.

If anybody knows of other distros with Gnome, please add them here.

List out of date, kindof

Zenwalk ships 2.14
also they have missed out rPath's derivative Foresight that ALWAYS has latest gnome and is a "playground" distro of all the latest technologies :D

Arch Linux 2.14
arch does not ship with GNOME or any desktop environment/window manager.

I wonder why they made the list? It does say "ship with", not "set as default", I suspect it is much like Gentoo where it is not set as a default but you can enable it.

GNOME desktop has gotten a lot of push from for-profit enterprise companies like Red Hat and Novell. Supposedly easier for SysAdmins, I dunno...

Coming from a KDesktop Environment, I miss some of the somewhat easier functionality of it.

GNOME is different, but GNOME is changing. I'm presently downloading SLED 10 final on DVD, and I LIKE some of the changes SUSE has made to the GNOME look and feel. I don't like to feel that GNOME has been practically shoved down my throat by Novell with SUSE 10.1 (KDE used to be the top-choice on the installation screen, now GNOME is), because KDE has historically had the best support in SuSE. Now, with Novell's ownership, the powers-that-be are insisting on change. (Hence a lot of the shake ups lately between Novell and former SuSE heads?)

My $.02.

regards,
-dc

it comes with nothing of the sort. if you want gnome, you install it from the repositories with 'pacman -S gnome' otherwise you are running strictly from the command line

This list of distributions was automatically generated from Distrowatch (http://distrowatch.com/). If your distribution is missing, or the wrong information is being displayed, first check the information given by Distrowatch. If that information is correct, contact Davyd Madeley (davyd@madeley.id.au).

perhaps you should contact Davyd Madeley and have the list corrected.

(as of 7/17/6 it does appear to come with GNOME Office, the second list doesn't say that they come with a GNOME desktop only that they are
"Other Distributions that ship GNOME")

Again go to this page:
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=arch

scroll down to "current" Table Notes and Explanations.

Again if this information is wrong please have it corrected.
