I plan on buying a new computer soon as i've stated in a previous thread. I had settled on a Asus (http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X202E-DB21T-11-6-Inch-Touchs... (http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-X202E-DB21T-11-6-Inch-Touchscreen-Laptop/dp/B00CWISC5I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)) but then i got an unexspected budget raise. So now i can spen up to $550 instead of $400.

So i found a few more options:

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-S3-391-6899-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook-Champagne/dp/B0085H655O/ref=pd_sim_sbs_pc_3 a list of my required specs:

I have set up the UX32A for someone who uses CAD and 3ds MAX on it. Worked out great, and it had a nice solid build. I'm sure that it is possible to install Linux on it as well. I'm no gamer, so I can't say anything in that range, but I can say that the other stuff will work fine.

no way you can get an i3 for 400 or 500 USD here. oh well.... btw you can get good 15" for that money. like HP probook or Lenovo. but i guess you are after netbook/ultrabook.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834686010

RAM: 8GB
Memory: 500GB HDD + 32GB SSD
CPU: 1.7Ghz (2.6Ghz turbo) Intel i5
Graphics: Intel HD 4000

Price: $549.99 (on sale via NewEgg)

Crap can the Windows 8 OS and put Ubuntu on that 32GB SSD formatted with Btrfs, you'll have a machine that will blow the skirt up off a girl. Get it while it's on sale, though.

Even though the CPU clock isn't really anything to talk about, it'll still be speedy.

cool. here cheapest one is no OS lenovo for about 550USD. most with os or no os are about 650-670 USD, starting with Asuss no os, then HP with Ubuntu preloaded. while those with win are about 100 EUR (130 USD) more. and also these are the ones with HD GPU. they did used to have some with ATI GPU for about 600 USD. i really do not understand why prices are so high here in Europe.

This looks likea really good deal, to good to be true. I looked up some review couldn't find that many but the ones i did find where very negative. Also I've never heard of this brand before. Sound like it low quality.

Do you own this computer?

Thanks for you suggestions,

tahdas

The avatar mercury looks like a mac air IMO haha.

I second mastablasta's sentiment on high price in europe. I always end up looking at refurbished IBM Lenovo thinkpads or something just few years old rather than a new one.

Avatar is a very unheard of brand, but it has some good products. Normally this laptop will run about $900, but NewEgg takes $350 off the price tag. The materials are typical of a normal laptop, but it looks sturdy enough to fit your needs.

My suggestion is to browse around NewEgg for a laptop. NewEgg is one of the best sites to buy computers and computer hardware from.

-------------------------------------------------
However, I found another laptop for you that has similar hardware and is from a well-known brand. It looks a little more sturdy, as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834257284

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
CPU: 1.7Ghz Intel i5
GPU: Intel HD 4000

Price: $514.99 (on sale via NewEgg)
With laptops, remember that (if there is no dedicated card) the GPU shares memory with the RAM, so the more RAM the better. I suggest that you take the extra $35 you have after buying this and using it to upgrade the RAM to about 8GB (DDR3 1600).

Sorry, but I hate HP. I did a little more digging on the Avatar laptop, and it seems decent, but its too heavy and the screen is too big.

I like these two (Can't tell if they're the same): http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Zenbook-UX32A-DB31-13-3-Inch-Ultrabook/dp/B00863L2MI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379105874&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+13 & http://www.amazon.com/Asus-UX32A-R3502H-Ultrabook-Processor-Bluetooth/dp/B00BC7DRXC/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_i

I think you'all misunderstood stood, im not a gamer, i like to be able play TF2 once in a while. I rather have a light Laptop with a backlit keyboard and aluminum covered, tough body, than a plastic over powered laptop. Do i have my priories mixed up? Am i being too picky?

Sorry for being such a pain in the butt,
Thanks,
tahdas

Looks like they are two slightly different models in the same family.

Personally I would go for the second of your links (larger storage) plus the SSD. Both look like good laptops, have ample specs and should be more than capable of running TF2.
