Hi,
When I boot, Unity normally takes all of 5 seconds. Unfortunately, lately, I often find that all I have is a mouse pointer in the middle of a blank black screen.
If I press reset, things come right on the second or third retry so I guess that something to do with start up timing may be the issue.

I can move the mouse pointer around and I've tried clicking on locations where one would find key icons such as the shut down menu but nothing happens.

Using the keyboard, I can get a full sceen command line interface that I can logon to. I wonder if I can somehow use the command line to start Unity but I don't know how to do that.

Please can somebody help me?

In case this is a timing issue, my configuration is:
CPU: intel Core i5-3330 3GHz x 4
Ubuntu: 64 bit, 13.04
RAM: 7,7 GiB
Graphics: on board - intel Ivybridge Desktop
SSD: 108 GB
