Hi

My Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop is corrupt, it won't start and I get a black screen.
How to repair an existing installation, without losing anything?

cccc;

Version 10.04 desktop edition has reached End Of Life. It no longer enjoys support or security updates.
It is most highly recommended that one back up data (liveCD) and do a clean install to a current version.

the better option

And may I add, coming from 10.04LTS and Debian 6, Ubuntu Unity 12.04LTS is smooth and rock solid :)
