View Full Version : Laptop reboot issue

I have just bought a new laptop (with an SSD drive if it's relevant, the rest is rather standard) and installed Ubuntu 13.04 on it. There was Win 7 on it originally but I removed it, so there is now only one OS.

There is this problem I get about every other time I boot or reboot... Ubuntu boots quickly is usual, then I even hear the welcoming chime of the Unity desktop but... the Unity itself is nowhere to be seen. Instead I see a dark black screen with a mouse pointer in the middle and a blinking cursor at the top left corner. If I switch to the command line terminals (Ctrl+Alt 1-6), I get a bash login prompt as normal. But if I try to go back to the X terminals (tty7 and 8), I get the dull black screen again. Then I have to do a hard reboot to go back to the normal GUI login. Although this works, I don't think this is right...

Can anybody help with this? What could this be?

Thanks!
