Upgrading from 8.10 server

I have attempted to upgrade from 8.10 server and am getting error messages. I posted before but neglected to say it was server. The advice I got in return was to clean install. Not an easy job since I am serving several web sites and have all using databases.

Messages "Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty-security/multiverse/source/Sources.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.200 80]

There are multiple warnings with different packages.
