As I was unable to move the unity taskbar due to non-availability of 'unity- plugin rotated' in the compiz config utility, I installed the Cinnamon desktop environment atop 12.04.But I am confused as to which is the chief control manager, means, I see two system settings icons in the settings menu, one belonging to the ubuntu unity and another to the cinnamon desktop environment. Which settings do I have to change to change the appearances, installing new themes etc. Means which is the master control, unity or cinnamon..?

If you want to change the theme used by cinnamon, you need to use cinnamon settings. The theme used by the cinnamon desktop won't change the theme used by unity.

To avoid all confusion, use the "system settings" offered by cinnamon's own menu.
