Are they not staying in place after a restart? I've not seen my icons move from the desktop after a restart before.

Do you have the "Keep Aligned" checked on the Desktop background?

oh come on! it always stays aligned to the left side of the desktop! if in the case i want icon i choose to stay at the top right corner of the desktop, how can i do that now? and further even with "keep aligned" checked or unchecked; it goes to same left alignment when i do "clean up by name". i want it to stay at same position forever!!
