This looks like a brilliant idea for controlling a desktop. Leap Motion (https://www.leapmotion.com/apps). Hopefully it will be available to Linux in the future

It's a great concept, but it still needs a lot of work.

Had the device on pre-order, was disappointed to find I could only use the visualiser on Ubuntu after all the pre-release documentation said it would be supported. But no problem.... I can still wave my hands around and see a representation of them in a window, I just can't meaningfully use the device!

But using the visualiser, the device:
- Barely, if ever, recognises thumbs
- Loses tracking of fingers if you curl them up a little, or if your hands twist more than about 45 degrees

Aside from that, when using the device on Win7 I've noticed:
- It's very hard to find a comfortable "depth" where your mouse-pointing turns into clicking the screen. You almost feel like the device needs to be re-calibrated every time you turn it on to compensate for the fact you might be sittting in a slightly different spot from last time you used it
- It's incredibly easy to accidentally select large chunks of text when you're trying to scroll, or to zoom in/out.
...and the big killer
- There's not really any software that utilises the device in a meaningful way. Sure, it's fun to play around with Google Earth, or muck around with some of the "Warioware-style mini games" available for a cost on the AirSpace store.... but ultimately, it's just really hard to use the thing to control your PC.

After using it for an hour or two, the bottom line is that it's not very intuuitive yet. I'm sure it will improve, but it needs a lot of clever developers to support it fully - and then needs the users to be happy to pay up to $100 per piece of software from the Airspace app store to purchase that support!

Hi superfreak.

Why does it require an internet connection?

I am guessing the internet connection is so you can download apps (which don't appear to be Linux compatible)
