Hi all,

recently I turned back to ubuntu and lubuntu.
I decided to install lubuntu 13.04 on my eee (poor thing was still running ubuntu 9.04) but when I tried installing it, I got the message that it needs a minimum of 8.6 GB to install

Did something change since I last used lubuntu (which as I remember was aimed at low powered computers with small hard drives) or did I use a wrong image or anything else?

I used the following iso: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/13.04/release/lubuntu-13.04-desktop-i386.iso

yes 8.6 is the very minimum, 12 for usual needs is better. Here is how i set installation from scratch: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2112995&p=12495221#post12495221

are you sure it is the minimum? remember it is lubuntu I am trying to install
I used to install it on the same eee (but it was 11.04 if I am not mistaken)

A couple of simple questions. Did you try Lubuntu from a flash drive or an external CD before you tried to install? Did everything work in the live mode?

You should be able to install Lubuntu on a 8.6 Gb partition. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

I have three OS on my EeePC but obviously have a much larger hard drive than you do and all three are doing fine.

I've been looking around and found a few mentions of things like this. From what I gather it's related to using YUMI to put the iso on the usb stick- people using CDs or virtual machines. Ubuntu 13.04 asks for 8.6gb and Mint 16 wants 10.7gb to install.

Using the "something else" option during installation I was able to install ubuntu to my 6gb of free space, without any swap. Some sort of calculation for the swap partition might be related to the installer asking for more space- But that's a complete guess.
