I have had this happen to me several times now... when updates (usually kernel updates) get downloaded and installed on my dual boot (GRUB with Windows 7) machine I have all kinds of strange boot problems.
For example yesterdays updates were available (kernel), I downloaded and installed them and a restart was required. I restarted and it hangs and then cycles between restarting (GRUB menu) and hanging.
I reboot the system to the previous kernel release or recovery mode a few times (no other action taken) and then it seems to clear up.
Any idea what is wrong or how to handle the better in the future?
