Hey I’m trying to install Lubuntu (alternate install) 13.04 on my notebook for nearly a week :(
My notebook is a Compaq Armada E500:
CPU: Pentium 3 800Mhz
RAM: 256MB
HDD: 30GB
Chipset: Intel 440BX
Graphic: ATI rage mobility AGP 2x Series (rev 64) 8MB
The problem after installation from CD finishes is that I don’t get to the login screen.
The display shows me Lubuntu starting screen for some seconds then I only see a blinking cursor on the left top of the screen.
In this sad state my notebook remains till I reboot or shut it down.
By pressing “ctrl + alt + del” I get the message” acpid: exiting” and the nice Lubuntu screen before computer restarts.
I verified the MD5 checksum of the CD, seems to be ok.
I tried to boot with “acpi=off”, “nomodeset”, “xforcevesa” but nothing helped … well I’m not sure if I wrote the boot options correctly into the grub bootloader.
I selected the first entry “Ubuntu” pressed “e” and searched for the line starting with “linux /boot/vmlinuz” (according to http://askubuntu.com/questions/160036/how-do-i-disable-acpi-when-booting).
Before the expression “quit splash” I added each option separated with a blank.
Any ideas? I’m not familiar with linux…
