complete noobie here,
so my desktop was kinda messed up with windows so i tried linux mint 15, loved it but its freezing too much,
so i was deciding to try out ubuntu 13.04.
however, the first several times, the live dvd wouldnt run the installation but it had all the files shown in the dvd
(this same dvd worked perfectly when I tested it on my laptop though)
now it says it cannot mount the live dvd...
im so confused here! please help!

in the error notification it said:

Error mounting /dev/sr0 at /media/family/Ubuntu 13.04 amd64: Command-line `mount -t "iso9660" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,ioc harset=utf8,mode=0400,dmode=0500" "/dev/sr0" "/media/family/Ubuntu 13.04 amd64"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: unknown filesystem type 'iso9660'

Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums :-)

From your description I suspect that you have a hardware problem. Maybe the memory, which can be tested from the live CD right at the start: memtest. Or maybe a problem with the CD drive.
