Hello:

I really like using Xubuntu because it's so clean but have been trying to figure out how to auto-arrange or even give a commenad for all icons to arrange now that I have arranged several frfom the desktop. I have never seen a windowed operating system that will not allow for arranging icons on the desktop. Will I have to move to another Ubuntu Os in order to do this?

Thanks for any help offered.

David

right click on the desktop to get the properties (or with either ctrl/alt + right click)

There is a command in the menu when you right-click on the desktop: arrange desktop icons. It collects any loose icons together into full vertical columns left to right.

That said, I think desktop icons auto-align into a rectangular grid by default. Mine do. In fact I see no way to turn that behavior off. I can manually place them elsewhere on the screen, but they will always center in the grid cells that are outlined as you drag them around. If you then use the arrange option, they fill back into columns. How do yours behave?
