Fix update manager so it doen't ask twice

My problem with Update Manager is that it never seems to stop asking me to install updates I don't want. I would like a setting whereby when I decline an update, it doesn't show up again. Is this possible? For instance, every time it pops up, it has the same updates for Thunderbird, which I don't use - how can I make them go away?

I don't think it is possible. If you don't use Thunderbird (or any other software, doesn't matter) why don't you remove it? Only solution I can think of is not to update anything; I mean, unmark all checkboxes on the Update Manager and set the "Check for updates" item to "Never". Otherwise, if you don't want updates for software you don't use, remove it.

I've been using Ubuntu every day for the last 6 years but I'm not an expert, I'm just speaking from my own experience. Hope you find a solution for your issue.

Option 1:
If you do not have any software that depends on thunderbird, Just remove it.

Option 2:
Remove update manager and use synaptic package manager (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto#How_to_keep_your_system_up-to-date.2C_including_the_Kernel) to update. Works for me :)
