I am having a difficult time getting clipit to display on my system (ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome Classic / from upgrade). After reading all I could regarding the clipit applet it looks like clipit works in new installations and has issues with upgraded instillations of ubuntu.

1) How do I get clipit to work?
I have tried reinstalling (command line and synaptic)

2) Is this a Gnome issue? Perhaps it is time to reinstall Gnome?

I know that some panel indicators/applets were affected in upgrades , but from the threads I have seen it has not been the same for everyone . Clipit is not included as the other applets are so there should be no configuration carried over from the previous version of Ubuntu unless you were using that application. You could try to re install the gnome-panel.

I went into Synaptic and re-installed the gnome panel. For good measure I re-installed clipit. Then re-boot.

Unfortunately there is no change. Clipit still flashes briefly when I click on the applet and the app does not display.

Suggestions?

You could give Diodon a try. https://launchpad.net/~diodon-team/+archive/stable
