open file with custom app

Hi
in 12.10 there was a real simple, quick way to open .blend with a Blender on a different drive, but I don't remember. Any help?

In a terminal window you should be able to run


program file

where 'program' could be blender and 'file' could be file1.blend

Depending on the file browser you can create custom choices via right-clicking or the pull-down menus.
