Screen freezes on installation

I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04(32 bit) onto an AMD 64 desktop by means of an external HDD. I am never able to make it through the entire install without the screen freezing. I installed a new HDD without any change. Does anyone have any clue what could be the problem.

Also, I have had success using the same set up to install on other computers.
