Unity Dash background display problems

Ubuntu 13.04, Lenovo W520, Nvidia Quadro 1000M

Occasionally - not always, but often enough to be a problem - the background of the dash in unity will stop responding to the windows below it, and freeze into the blurred image of one particular window. When it does this it also always aquires black banding as shown in the screenshot. I have done some searching but haven't found similar problems. How can I go about finding a fix for this?

are you using the nvidia drivers?

Yes, I'm using nvidia-304. By the way, how do I know which one (304, 310, 313, [-updates]) to use?

Any other suggestions? I've noticed this happens dependably after waking from sleep.
