View Full Version : [ubuntu] Could not download all repository indexes 10.04

AS part of the strategy to upgrade Ubuntu in a dual boot I read upgrading could be done using Update Manager. Current version is 10.04. But I have a problem when updating repositories since I get the following error message:

"Failed to fetch http://archive.canonical.com/dists/lucid/Release
Unable to find expected entry lynx/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

Would someone please help me to solve this issue? So I can upgrade versions progressively to the latest keeping the dual boot structure..or is there another way?

Thank You.

Hello and Welcome

Since the 10.04 desktop has reached end of life an EOL upgrade would be the next step . The link has not been updated to include 10.04 so inserting the lucid code name when adding the old repositories would be appropriate. If at all possible backup and preform a clean installation of 12.04 . Because you have 10.04 LTS a direct upgrade to 12.04 LTS is possible, but adding the old repository complicates the process. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades
