i know this is on Linux Mint olivia (Debian version i think) but i was just wondering if its possible to get my desktop looking similar to this (Seperate panels at the top of the screen then the main panel at the bottom) im running kubuntu - kde 4.10. I went and tried a few other distros after i first used kubuntu so im still getting used to it again

sorry if this is in the wrong place

The bottom "panel" is called a dock and is fairly easy to achieve. I'm not sure what packages are available in the Ubuntu repo but a search for "dock" should come up with 2 or 3 to try.

The top panel is a Cinnamon theme called void (http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes/view/104). It's most likely a single panel with a transparent background in the center. You may be able to do the same with the KDE panel or try a replacement panel like tint2 (which I believe does permit you to place more than one panel along the same screen edge). Configuring tint2 isn't easy for a new user, but it's an interesting exercise if you're up to it.
