Won't boot after install

I had Ubuntu 10.04 installed and from the terminal I installed lubuntu, but know it will not boot. It gets to a black screen with a cursor flashing but nothing more. I am still able to get to recovery mode and I can see the lubuntu logo when I turn my computer off

Not sure what you did. You didn't give us a great deal of information to work with. Is it correct to say that you tried to install the lxde desktop to Ubuntu 10.04? Or did you try to upgrade the version from10.04 to another version? What exactly did you do to try to install Lubuntu?
