Hello all,

I would like to do the following to my XPS 14 ultrabook with 128 GB msata ssd which is currently set up with RST for the horrible windows 8 it came with. I would like to:

disable the intel RST

install ubuntu 12.04 on the ssd - LEAVING THE 500 GB HD completely untouched. No swap partition, I will set up a swap file after install.

change the boot order so it loads from the ssd first. If i ever need to send it in for repair I can then simply change the boot order. I do NOT want a grub menu at startup asking me whether I want to load windows or ubuntu. Just always load ubuntu, if i ever need windows I can change it in the bios.

My questions are - How do I disable the RST technology? my bios reads:
intel speedstep [enabled]
sata operation [intel smart response technology]
intel rst [enabled]
is it enough to change these? will the drive be bootable?

Will formatting the ssd mess up my windows?

Thanks a lot! If I posted in the wrong place sorry! Thanks a lot!

Alex
