Upgrade from 32 bit to 64

I have a laptop setup with a dual boot of Ubuntu 12.04 (32 bit os) and W8. I have a 64 bit machine and would like to upgrade my Ubuntu to the 64 bit version of 12.04. Is there a way to do a simple upgrade, or do i have to reinstall the OS? I would

Its more hypothetical than anything. I was going to try to us the Chromeo Chrome OS port/hack when i realized i didn't have the 64 bit OS. Was wondering if it was worth the effort to upgrade for the few benefits of 64 bit over 32. Probably not worth the hassle. Thanks!
