(12.04LTS) I had tried a few times to change the desktop background in Gnome Classic by right clicking on the desktop and selecting Change Desktop Background. I would then get a blank dialog scree with no options.
Later I noticed that in the menu system, when I go to System Tools, there are two menu items called System Settings. The first of these offers Appearance/Backgrounds, and shows the same blank dialog. The second offers Personal/Appearance and does present some alternative background.
What do these two menu items with the same title represent?
