Hello,

There seem to be A LOT of choices for kernels for 12.04.2 LTS. Which is the "official" one? and which are "safe" to install (i.e. not experimental). I need one with a linux-source so that I can buld DKMS modules for nvidia and for virtualbox.

Thanks,
CH

There's only two choices. The 3.2 or 3.5, both official.

There's an additional recent choice, the 3.8, also official.

Your right, when then they sneak that in :) Im still on 3.2, but works just fine with the dinosaurs Im running. I guess if I had newer equipment this would be a good deal.

I've been on the 3.5 kernel since it was available without any problems at all. I tried the 3.8 version a week or so ago, and that seemed to work fine, but it gave me a few graphic glitches for a second or two just before the lightdm login screen was about to appear, and fear of other problems made me remove it and stick with the 3.5 version.

Xubuntu 12.04.2, Intel i5 3570K, ASUS P8H61-MX USB3 m/b, 8GB ram, Integrated Intel HD4000 graphics.

I've used all three and can't say that I've noticed any difference. Ultimately, I think it's a case of trying them out and making the decision for oneself.
