I thank anyone in advance who may be able to help me, or let me know if it cannot be done.

I have tried and tried to install Ubuntu onto my laptop. I was going to go with Mint, but wanted to try Ubuntu before I go to far with Mint and decided I liked Ubuntu better. I am able to install Linux Mint within Windows 7 using Daemon lite, creating a virtual disk. Ubuntu won't install the same way :(

The problem I have is when I wanted to install Ubuntu 13.04, I read I needed to make a partition for it, which I did. When I did that, I turned my hard drive into a dynamic disk and have searched on how to convert it back, but have failed. I even went as far as reinstalling Windows 7, hoping that would magically fix it.

I have a HP laptop, and deleted all the partitions except the 'C' partition, and the system partition because it won't allow me to delete it. Is there any way to convert my drive back to basic so I can create a primary partition to install Ubuntu? I think I could puzzle through creating the partitions (primary, swap, etc).

You should search harder. Try this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26829-convert-dynamic-disk-basic-disk.html (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26829-convert-dynamic-disk-basic-disk.html)

Remember to back up any data that you don't want to lose.
