hi,
i'm trying to install ubuntu alongside windows 8 (not ready to give it up, but it's so frustrating that i want to use ubuntu the majority of the time). anyway, i created a bootable usb, changed the boot options (usb stick was actually recognized), and then when i selected the usb stick i got the following error message:
SYSLINUX 3.85 2010-02-20 CBIOS Copyright (c) 1994-2010 H. Peter Anvin et al
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!
boot:

i've found earlier threads talking about changing the file name from iso to sys or something like that, but they're all for previous releases and i can't find any files matching that description in the one i've downloaded. any help would be lovely!
thanks!!

First of all check the integrity of the downloaded ubuntu ISO with MD5Sum Check (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM), if the check fails then re-download ubuntu. Then burn it to USB: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows

Tell us more about the machine you are trying to install Ubuntu to. Also post the screen shot of the Disk partitions from Windows. Did Windows8 came pre-installed? Is there a SSD in the picture?
