Hello,
I just updated to Ubuntu 12.10 and once the computer booted I get the issue described here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/141606/how-to-fix-the-system-is-running-in-low-graphics-mode-error

I want to try the first solution, reinstalling ubuntu-desktop, but when I enter CTRL + ALT + F1, I get prompted to enter my login details (attached).

I thought my username would be 'Zach', but I tried that and numerous other possibilites and none of them worked. I am entering in the correct password.

Is there another "Zach login:" that I should be trying?

Well hello,

What you actually do is just open an terminal with the Ctrl+Alt+F1. Do you remember what was the username that you have input during the installation (Not your name but the username). And after that you will log into your Ubuntu.

Hi,
I'm almost certain I made my username Zach (my name). Is the username what appears on the typical graphical login?

Typically after introducing Unity the login screen after Ubuntu 12.04 don`t ask you for a username. And also don`t show the username, but it shows the real name of the user as input during the installation process. When you see this terminal the first thing you should do is just enter your username and after that a prompt will ask for you password. Here I have no idea if your username is "Zach" as I see from the photo attached that your computer is also name "Zach". So better try one more time with the remembering of the username and later we can try something else ?

Ok, this is very embarrassing for me. I went here:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

and followed all of the commands. Ubuntu told me my username is zach. So I went back and presumed normal boot, entered CTRL + ALT + F1 and enter my username zach. And it works.

Turns out I entered uppercase instead of lowercase.

Man I feel like a newbie....

Anyways, I'll continue the process of reinstalling ubuntu.

I hope that you can manage with this issue. I remember when I was on 9.10 I had similar error. But of course mine was my mistake as I played too much with the file I don`t have to touch :)

cheers

Ok I tried reinstalling it and rebooting it, that didn't work. Then I tried this:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/141606/how-to-fix-the-system-is-running-in-low-graphics-mode-error/141607#141607

That didn't work either.

Then I tried this:

http://askubuntu.com/a/218095

Using the terminal and that doesn't work. So I'm supposed to go to the AMD website and download the drivers, but how do I do that since I cannot access with ubuntu?

By the way, when I see the error message I cannot go any farther than what the attached photo says (I don't know why the photo appears upside down). Pressing arrows or the enter key does nothing.
