Hi,

My ubuntu 12.04 crashed. It shows a black screen and says : boot from AHCI CD-rom, Operating systeem not detected.

I was using windows before I removed it to install Ubuntu (using Wubi).

How can I recover my data?

Your post is confusing ... Wubi is an install from INSIDE Windows. IF you remove Windows, then you remove Ubuntu, as well.

So, did you reinstall Ubuntu after removing Windows?

Hi

Appologies for the confusion. I'm frustrated at the moment.

Yes I did re-install ubuntu after removing windows. My pc was running ubuntu only.
I read in some forums that I can recover my data by running ubuntu Live CD, then click on "places" on the top bar then I will see the hard disk where my files are. Problem is that when I run the ubuntu live cd,I don't see the "places" option, I'm only given these options: "file", "edit", "go to", "help".

Please help me on how to recover my files.

If you have another PC handy, make a bootable USB stick with Knoppix on it. Then you can go back to your damaged install of Ubuntu, boot from the USB stick, and copy your files onto the same USB stick. I did this when my wife's hard drive was failing - works great!
