No sound and other issues

Recently installed 12.04, yesterday audio worked, today not. Haven't accepted any updates.

Runs like a dog, apps take an age to launch so I end up trying to repeatedly relaunch them, keep getting not enough memory messages (I have 3Gb).

Intermittant severe lag when typing.

Tried rebooting.

I wanted to like ubuntu but I'm being drawn back to windows vista (yes it's that bad).

Some hardware specifications and information on how you've configured things might be helpful.

The problem of no sound results after resuming from standby. Seems to be a 5 year old issue http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=975279
