Hi there,

I am new to the Linux world. Unfortunately my ubuntu install on a machine that had windows xp on it has not gone very smoothly.

I would like to have the computer be a dual boot computer and I had selected the installation settings at such. However upon trying to boot I got some sort of 'error no such device' some long sequence of numbers and letters 'grub rescue' message.

With a bit of googling I ran into a ton of advice I definitely could not understand. However one page directed me to creating a 'boot-repair' CD.

Unfortunately the default settings of the boot repair have not helped me. Nor did me going in the advanced settings and trying a few things. However it did advise me to copy the following URL and ask for advice on this forum.

here are the links each time I tried to fix the issue:

In your response please keep in mind that I am brand new to the Linux universe, so if you can please explain any steps in complete layman's terms it would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance
