Dear Ubuntus,

I have found all of you really helpful over the years and would like to donate, but I hate the PayPals and I will never do business with them.

Why you ask? Because of things like this:

1) During 2010, WikiLeaks received €635,772.73 in PayPal donations, less €30,000 in PayPal fees, and €695,925.46 in bank transfers. €500,988.89 of the sum was received in the month of December, primarily as bank transfers as PayPal suspended payments 4 December.

2) In September 2010, PayPal froze the account of Markus Persson, developer of independent video game Minecraft. Persson stated publicly that he had not received a clear explanation of why the account was frozen, and that PayPal was threatening to keep the money if they found anything wrong. His account contained around €600,000.

More examples of their abominations can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paypal#Criticism

Therefore, I wanted to ask you:

You've come to the wrong place. This is a forum. The members and forum staff have nothing to do with the decisions made about how donations are handled. If you feel that strongly, have a look at the contact us link on this page:

Ok, I'll send them emails. Every Bitcoin user who also uses Ubuntu should do the same.

Thanks for considering to support open source.

If Paypal is not your taste you can also donate to some of the main projects separately like for example
http://donate.libreoffice.org/

Well, at least LibreOffice accepts creditcards, but again, no Bitcoin? Why, I ask. Many people would like to donate small amounts to a lot of projects they really like, but they don't do it because it takes too much time and the transaction fees eat up a large portion of the money.

Why need to eliminate leeches and ticks like Paypal, Visa, Mastercard and the like, and have a way to send money directly to the developers, not to megacorporations.

There are distinct software problems now that have made it completely impossible, for weeks, to make donations, though PayPal is acceptable.
