I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04 and got rid of the Unity desktop, choosing instead to use the Gnome Classic w/o effects. There is one difference in the one I used to use (I'm guessing the old one under 10.04 was Gnome v2 and this one is v3): when I open programs the program icon in the gnome-panel displays from the right to the left (image attached). Previously, using 10.04 (and Gnome v2 I guess), the icon would display on the left and, as another program was started. its icon would be added to the right; this time it's opposite and is a bit confusing.

Has anyone had this problem. Is there a way to fix it?

You have your "Window List" position to the center of the panel. The new gnome only gives the positions. Left, right and center. Just Alt + right click and move to the left :)

Thanks, ibjsb4. That was easy. I never realized there was a "Windows List" applet.
