Really need a nice alternative to winamp.

Hmm, is there an app that is as skinny but fat and featureful with great plugin repository like Winamp? The linux music players aren't skinny, some are but they use old winamp skins that are too tiny and ugly. I need something that will allow me to sort my playlists, with 20-band EQ, ReplayGain and DSP/VST support. And will allow me to edit Gain and other metadata for specific and multiple songs like foobar does. With advanced search features, lyrics fetching, etc. Regular Stuff that Windows players have been able to do for decades... And a really nice interface.....,. hmm. And maybe a bar spectrum analyser? Thanks.

You might like to check out VLC. It's very featureful although I wouldn't know if it does everythong you need. To install just run:

sudo apt-get install vlc

Worth looking at audacious as well. Using different skins you can certainly make it look just like winamp.

I've tried audacious but the interface is miniature to the point of being absolutely unreadable. I think Qmmp had the same problem. It seems like it uses Classic skins dating back to the late 90s. That may work on low resolutions. Mine is not even that high 1440x900. I guess very hardcore minimalists would like them... I'll look at the other alternatives suggested. thanks.

I installed winamp using wine it runs really good. You might want to give it a try.

Yes, Cpu load is above normal. I expect that due to the emulation.
I have used clementine before it's a very nice player and light on resources.
It would be nice to have a linux version of winamp. I like winamps toolbar feature.

Got to say that I spent ages churning through music players, I've tried loads of them - pretty much stayed with clementine over the last couple of years.
