13.04 Kernel Problems?

I tried upgrading my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop from 12.04 to 13.04 (tried Ubuntu 13.04 Unity, Xubuntu 13.04, and Ubuntu Gnome 13.04) and am all three are crashing with null pointer exceptions at different times. In each case I did a clean install by formation my / partition.

I am back to using 12.04 with no problems. Could this be a kernel issue?

There are definitely issues with the included kernel. I have had a nightmare with webcam and sound on my samsung laptop.

I found this link to upgrade the kernel and all of my problems went away. Try at your own risk but I didn't have any problems.
