View Full Version : [ubuntu] Converting eOS to Server, is it possible?

Hi guys. i was just wondering if it was possible to turn my eOS into a full fledge server? the thing is im going to build a beowulf but my main os is Elementary OS(based on Ubuntu 12.04) and ive been using it for quite sometime and i got all my works in there and i dont want to download Ubuntu Server. if there is a way around this pls let me know coz im not that good with linux. thanks.

Yes you can :)

I can't give you specifics, as I don't know eOS, but here's a few thoughts.

All services that a server can provide, can be set up on a desktop version.
You can even keep the GUI. It will take resources though (a bit of proc time, but mainly RAM).
You can disable the GUI, without uninstalling it by configuring some files.
You can, indeed, uninstall all the GUI packages to free some disk space.
