I lost unity on my desktop, ...

I tried to start
synaptic-pkexec

and got:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Xapian:DatabaseCorruptError'
Aborted (core dumped)


what am I going to do to fix that?

Running xapian-check is probably the best check. That checks the structure of each table, and also performs some cross-checks for consistency.
