Do I need "notification-daemon" package?

Folks,

I have built a system with minimal Ubuntu + OpenBox. When I try to install xfce4-notifyd package, apt-get recommends that I also install "notification-daemon." I am wondering if I really need this package as well. What does it actually do?

Have you installed synaptic package manager? Try removing it with synaptic and see what else is going to be removed.


sudo apt-get install synaptic

Thank you for your help. I haven't installed "notification-daemon" yet. My system seems to work fine without it. I am just curious on what I could be missing by not installing this daemon. I do have xfce4-notifyd in place.
