need to install Ubuntu but there are some difficulties

Hi

I have a laptop with problematic DVD-Drive.
It also can't connect to the internet due to some unknown problem.
It also DOESN'T have USB option in BIOS "boot from" options.

It currently runs Windows XP that's a bit defective so I need to remove it and install Ubuntu.

It's a relatively new computer and except from the above problems, it's a good one.

What can I do?

The easiest solution is to purchase a computer that isn't broken.

Thank you for the examples of British understatement. You are winding us up, aren't you? Does the screen also have a little bit of a crack in it? A relatively new laptop with XP on it. You are joking us aren't you?

IF you really want detailed advice, then tell us the make, model, and purchase date of the laptop, and give us some specs (processor, memory, bus speed, hard drive size).

Also, if this laptop came with XP on it, it also came with all the right drivers needed for the hardware.

It can be very difficult to find Linux drivers for laptops, so putting Ubuntu on it, is not going to "automagically" fix any hardware problems you have, nor is it going to work any better than did XP before it developed problems.
