Yes -- and I was there -- Ok not exactly. i remember someone showing me the internet in 1995 with Mosaic -- there were a few pages that I remember viewing but they were all in text with maybe one gif or two. I remember thinking to myself "why would anyone use this??" I believe this was pre Infoseek, Excite, Yahoo search days. Guess my insight back then was a little poor.

Ah, Web 1.0. Good ol' days.

Wait... no. I mean, horrible ol' days. 33.6 kbps connections. Buggy, crash-prone browsers. Hideous web pages. And total lack of content - we didn't even have Wikipedia back then, can you imagine?

Anyone remember WAIS? Wide Area Information Server.

That first site looks a lot like http://craigslist.org

That is a seriously underwhelming site, but I guess they had no way of knowing they'd just changed the world forever.

I was on the internet before Mosaic was around. Back then everything was telnet & ftp.

One thing I'm 100% certain of is that there was way less crap on the net back in those days compared to today.

I had been using dial-up connections to University computers for a while to share software (the term FOSS hadn't been invented yet), fonts, etc. When I heard about the WWW and accessed it, I thought it was just another bulletin board. I didn't realize it was something new that would grow into what it is today.

I still miss my slide rule.

I still have my K&E slide rule and the manual. My son played with it for a few days and thought it was fascinating what a few sticks of wood could do.
