When I upgraded to 13.04, three icons caught my eye immediately -- Software Centre, new Ubuntu logo (applications menu), and File Manager. Soon I saw the Software Updater icon too.
So, I want to see the list of programs used in the creation process. Is it Inkscape or something else?

Inkscape can certainly make logos like those. Paths and gradients and maybe a filter or two.

I learned most from this guide (http://www.amazon.com/Book-Inkscape-Definitive-Graphics-Editor/dp/1593271816/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1367890809&sr=1-2&keywords=inkscape).
