Software Updater Error

When ever I try to get the latest updates, including trying to upgrade to 13.04, I get this Internet error:

What might be causing this error? My Internet works fine otherwise.

Those are karmic sources, what are you running?

Ubuntu 12.10 installed from upgrades.

Ok, you need to remove that one PPA (http://ppa.launchpad.net/screenlets), there is no 12.10 package for it.

Then you also need to remove all those karmic sources. If you run into trouble doing this, please post your sources list.

I do not know how to remove the PPA's. Is there a Terminal Code for it? I would rather ask than delete something I should not.

Yes there is, but you should be able to do it from the above posted link. Try this in terminal:


gksudo software-properties-gtk

Then go to the "Other Software" tab and either remove said PPA or just uncheck it.

Figured out, with your last help.ubuntu.com ...Repositores how to delete the launchpad PPA's. It is still referencing Karmic, and I had already deleted anything related to Karmic.

I have read some backport information from the forum, but see nothing in Updater or Software Updater that refers to backports. Must this be done manually through the Terminal?

Now .. In terminal:


gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

And comment out (##) line 33.
##deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse

Then you should be good to go. Check with an update.


sudo apt-get update

Looking for a fast fix, try ..


sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

And/or


gksudo nautilus

Either one of those work?

Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_error_trap_pop: assertion `gdk_error_traps != NULL' failed seems to be a bug with a questionable fix.

I put "##" in front of both lines (33 & 34)

Software Updater worked! It even said 13.04 is available to upgrade.

I'll consider this issue solved and mark the first post.
