Ubuntu 13.4 upgrade or stay with 12.4

Should I Install 13.4 , Is it really such a big improvement ? or should I stick with 12.4 ,( I only tried 13.4 in virtualbox as a guest OS, but it feels very slow?)

it is much better, but you may want to wait a week for the kernel to get a update, it has some annoying bugs like

not booting out of the box (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2139988)
broken HDMI audio
issues with Nvidia

all of them can be resolved by using a mainline kernel (https://github.com/GM-Script-Writer-62850/Ubuntu-Mainline-Kernel-Updater#readme)

I have an HP Probook that I upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 and could not boot after the upgrade.
I kept getting "kernel panic"
I then did an install after downloading an iso image.
You get a choice of a clean install or (I forget the actual term) but an install that
essentially saves most of your apps etc.
That went well everything other than Wicd worked fine.
Wicd is an obsolete nm IMO anyway.

Wait for a kernel update. There are some issues with booting, so stick with 12.04 unless you want to help develop.

You are aware, are you not, that Ubuntu 13.04 only has 9 months support and so does 13.10? So, a decision to upgrade to 13.04 is also a decision to upgrade to 13.10 in six months time and then upgrade to 14.04 six months after that. If you do not want to upgrade twice in the next 12 months then do not upgrade to 13.04.

I guess that you are also aware that the user experience in a Virtual Machine is very much dependent upon the physical hardware of the computer. On my machine I get a better user experience with a Ubuntu LIve Session than I do with a Virtual Machine. And a live session is nothing in comparison to a hard disk install.

After upgrade to 13.4 my wireless internet connect is really funky. Takes forever to refresh or go to a different website. 12.10 was much faster. Other than that I do not see much difference.

Also had problems with connecting to my networked printer. 12.10 just found the printer and worked. 13.4 required finding and installing drivers.

Seems to me that 13.4 is a downgrade from 12.10.
