If I upgrade my 12.10 ubuntu to ubuntu 13.04 from the update manager, will it save all the files that I have, or will it erase them all?

thanks.

It should save them if you just perform the upgrade. I upgraded my system yesterday and all my files were still there. The only problem I have noticed is that it dropped my HDMI audio connection.

Always BACK UP your important DATA.

Upgrading to newer version from Update Manager will not 'erase' your data. It mostly alters and/or replaces the system files.

You definitely need a full backup because upgrades can sometimes go wrong. Don't always assume the best scenario, be prepared for problems too.

I prefer to do a fresh install after backing up my home directory as opposed to upgrading, as I've had one or two issues with upgrades in the past. I'm looking forward to doing just that later on tonight!
